It's a Tie Game, Coach

So let me get this straight! After battling to a 1 point lead in the top of the Ninth Inning, the U.S. House of Representatives just decides to go home, expecting the defense to hold. Just who the heck is coaching these guys? Maybe it’s Jose Canseco! – He just passed out some free steroids and the boys in the Capitol decided to hit the bars for corned beef and green beer.
Tom DeLay, where are you? The game just got tied and went in to extra innings! Get your team back into the dugout and finish the game! Your game plan may have been good, but you neglected to consider the simple fact that there is another team out there whose primary goal is to see to it that you lose. Don’t you care? Why did your team even bother to show up? I know it’s dark and you’re tired, but ask your team this question, “What would your Mother say if she saw you quitting like this?”
Dust yourselves off, spin your hats around, and get out there! Terri is counting on you; thousands of Incapacitated Persons are depending on you. The sun is setting not only on your game, but on their hopes and their lives!
Politics and competition aside, it is time to do the right thing. There can be no ties in the game of life and death.

  • The House has their "out":

"House Republicans knew we had a moral obligation to act and we did just that last night," said Speaker Dennis Hastert of Illinois and Majority Leader Tom DeLay of Texas.

That's all they needed...to say they tried, and it was the Senate that thwarted their efforts.

    That's politics, folks. Don't act so surprised/outraged/indignant.
