Schindlers File an Emergency Stay With the Supreme Court

Per Fox News:

Shindlers have filed an Emergency Stay with the Supreme Court.

I did hear reports earlier that they were going to file this, but was unable to confirm until now.

God has helped to keep Terri alive this long, AMAZING as it is. I urge those who feel compelled to pray to please do so. I am clinging to Terri's own words in this hour of grief.

Where There's Life, There's Hope....

  • they need to stop this nonsense ... several days ago they were "accepting" of the way it was and wanted things to go quietly from here on out.

now they are perpetuating an even bigger media circus with Jesse Jackson, etc.

how many times do you think the Court wants to hear from them? they have been told NO over and over and over and over ... one would think they would want to spend these final hours with Terri .. instead of grandstanding for publicity.

  • The only and probably final hope for them is the legislature tomorrow if she can even survive now. She may be so far gone that heroic measures may not help.

  • Her kidneys have shut down, and those buggers can't be jump-started. If they hydrate her now, her body will still be unable to expel any urine and she'll "drown" from hyponatremia.

  • oh but no!! those crazy protesters are trying to storm the building to take her a glass of water ... as if she could drink it anyway ...

    this continued display is pathetic

  • PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - Lawyers for the parents of Terri Schiavo on Wednesday filed another appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court, which has already declined five times to intervene in the case.

David Gibbs, an attorney for parents Bob and Mary Schindler, told reporters in Pinellas Park, Fla., that the appeal is "essentially our last."

no .. really .. THIS one is the last one ... no the other five times, well we said they were going to be the last ones, but really, for real .. THIS is the last one .. unless of course it's denied .. then we may file ONE MORE .. but then THAT one will be the last one ... seriously ...

  • Beth,

I know this is probably too late but perhaps if someone has been slipping her food and water when no one was looking there may be time to try another way to communicate with Terri.

At the Wadsworth Centre, the laboratory arm of the New York State health department, John Wolpaw and his team recently proved that a hat not unlike a swimming cap peppered with electrodes could pick up clear enough signals to allow the wearer to move a cursor around a computer screen. "There was an unsupported assumption that to get that kind of control, you needed to implant, but our work showed that's not the case. These systems can do better than a lot of people give them credit for," says Wolpaw.

"We look at rhythms on the EEG that are normally just idling, but we've shown that by using mental imagery, people can learn to make the signals stronger or weaker and we can translate that into cursor movement," says Wolpaw.

Also there are some MRI techniques that show responses to being spoken to.

And there are some very new thermal imaging techniques being studied that EASILY detect changes to blood flow beneath the skin around the eyes when being spoken to, changes that the researchers say demands consciousness and therefore could prove consciousness.

Forget the medical diagnostics purposes. HERE'S A LEGAL POINT: If Terri can be wired, monitored, so she can communicate herself then she can answer the question herself: does she want to live? Should not she be allowed to testify? A hearing impaired person is allowed to wear amplification equipment in a courtroom. Shouldn't Terri be allowed to testify as to her wishes herself?

  • You people need to examine your cruel motives. Why would it bother you that we advocate to save someone's life?

Is Terri taking up too much of your precious overpopulated space?

It takes compassion to put yourself in someone else's shoes- namely the Schindler's. Injustice should always be addressed. Too bad Terri is not a dolphin, seal or whale. She'd receive a lot more attention from your ilk.

  • (Beth?)

Anyway, it should be obvious by now that Gibbs' next move (note I'm not saying his next chance) will be to file something else to the Federal District Court, appeal that to the 11th Circuit Court panel, appeal that to the 11th Circuit Court en banc, and appeal that to the Supreme Court.

That sequence has happened once or twice already the last few weeks alone. There's little reason to think it won't happen again.

No hope in the FL Senate....

None of the Senators who voted agianst it would make a motion to put it on the floor for a vote agian, and now it is too late. The only thing they could do is intorduce NEW legislation on April 5... too late...

Sorry to bring you that news....
