God Bless Our Troops

I hope you enjoy the video. I have listed the lyrics below. Make sure you take a minute and read the post below from yesterday. I am excited to get talking about the news of the day, but I want to pay a special tribute to our soldiers. Enjoy the next two posts, and check back in later today. Straight Up with Sherri will be making some specail announcements.

by Toby Keith

I'm just trying to be a father
Raise a daughter and a son
Be a lover to their mother
Everything to everyone
Up and at 'em, bright and early
I'm all business in my suit
Yeah, I'm dressed up for success
From my head down to my boots

I don't do it for the money
There's bills that I can't pay
I don't do it for the glory
I just do it anyway
Providing for our future's my responsibility
Yeah I'm real good under pressure
Being all that I can be

And I can't call in sick on Mondays
when the weekends been too strong
I just work straight through the holidays
And sometimes all night long
You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door
Hey, I'm solid, hey I'm steady, hey, I'm true down to the core

And I will always do my duty no matter what the price
I've counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice
Oh, and I don't want to die for you
but if dyin's asked of me
I'll bear that cross with honor
'cause freedom don't come free

I'm an American soldier, an American
beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand
When Liberty's in jeopardy, I will always do what's right
I'm out here on the front line
Sleep in peace tonight
American soldier, I'm an American soldier

Yeah, an American soldier, an American
Beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand
When Liberty's in jeopardy I will always do what's right
I'm out here on the front line
So Sleep in peace tonight
American soldier, I'm an American
An American, an American soldier

  • I made a one-time gift at the Freedom Alliance website as well as a coninuing monthly gift. I hope our words will be followed by action. Less than the price of a daily newspaper can make a difference; and with the internet, I don't get the newspaper anymore anyway!

  • Congratulations on the video. A task nicely completed. This is, indeed, a moving and heartfelt piece. StraightUp keeps getting better all the time.

  • The video that was posted was very sincere. It is already hard when someone you love goes off to fight for our country knowing that they are doing something great. This was very beautiful sherri, and you help me relize what great soiders we have to serve our country.

    Keep it up!!!

    God Bless America!

  • This video is something that we the americans really need. Cause if you take a look at the media they will never talk about the good uplifting things like this they love to tell the bad. That's straight up with sherri is doing the right thing, keep bringing the news good and bad. Keep it up.

  • The video was very touching. Another reality check for those whom do not have first hand experience. Talking putting the shoe on the other foot.

  • After reading the words to the song again. Sounds like a proud soldier ready to fight for his honor or country. Why can't we all feel that way?

  • Hello Sherri, I think this was a great song that you published by this American Soldiers. This makes me realize some things our here that I don't take serious. I wake up alot of times and want to call in from work, but then I realize I would just be wasting a day. A lot of people like us can't call in and don't even have jobs. This was very good and makes us Americans think about decisions we make in our future.

  • I agree with you RNR9711, this was a proud soldier that was ready to fight for his country at any time of day and year. This soldier once to be a good father and wants his wife to be happy, but to me his goal is to make his country a better and safer place to be. I also want to know why majority of us in this society don't feel this way about our country.

  • After listening to this and reading the word out loud to my self this soldier really made me think about my every day life and some of the thing that I take for granted on a daily basis. I think this should be something that is published for everyone to enjoy.

  • Hi Sherri loved it. We need more stuff like this to support our troops.

  • That song was very touching, thank you for posting that Sherri. I enjoyed the video. I don't believe that we as Americans realized the struggle and sacrifice our soldiers are doing for us, because soon as something goes wrong we are blaming them or our president for what has happen. War isn’t right but we need to become unified as a country and support our troops.

  • This video made me realize that I'm taking life for granted. For instance when I'm sick I don’t go to work or school. This made me think about life in an entirely new prospective; I thank you for posting this because it made me look at life in a whole new way. May God bless you and our troops?

  • This peom is very touching. It almost made me want to go sign up for the army. I'm glad that there are brave young men and women that are willing to defend our freedom.

  • "...when liberty's in jeopardy, I will always do what's matter what the price"
Toby Keith has struck a chord with our class, as it should with anyone who hears this song or views the video.
Thank you Sherri for bringing us to attention...
We are reminded of sacrifices of the men and women who are putting their lives on the line.
    For our liberty...for yours.

  • Sherri I enjoyed the video and poem a lot. They both teach a valuable lesson, not take life for granted and to cherish what you have.

  • I enjoyed the poem. To me it sounds or I get the impression of a proud but lonely soilder.

  • This sounds to me like a proud soldier, with a lot of love for his country and his family. I'm proud of him, it takes someone who is strong to endure the things that soldiers endure.d00722368

  • Sherri, I really enjoyed the poem. This was a very touching song. I really makes you remember what sacrifices others make for us to live in America.

  • After reading the words to the song, I was really touched. Some people don’t understand that if it were not for our American soldiers protecting us from our enemies, they would not be able to function in their normal everyday lives. We would be in the same position as those in other countries, not knowing if that moment will be their last. So I salute a soldier who risks his or her life for their country.

  • Everytime I read this it makes me want to go and fight for our country. I probably would go enlist in the military if we had a leader who didn't place his troops in harms way for his own pleasures.
