Fox News,,,DeLay said House and Senate have agreed on a single bill,,,Say the bill will provide Terri with a clear appeal in Fed court,,,one member said Michael ill used his power of guardianship,,,Tom DeLay had very harsh words about Michael. Monday a Fed judge will have feeding tube re-inserted. They will reconvene 1p.m. tomorrow.
Just talked to Sherri. She talked to Mahoney and here's what he said:
"The Senate will vote at 5PM on the re-worded bill, it includes the word "shall". Once they vote, it goes back to the Congress. If it passes there, the President then signs it."
Are you talking about "shall re-insert the tube"? Because I thought DeLay just said they specifically removed that clause (on the assumption that the federal judicial system would do that by its own procedures anyway).
The house of Rep bill used the word "shall" meaning that the fed courts would be compelled to review cases such as Terri's. (Habeous corpus).
The senate bill made a last minute hand written ammendment changing the wording to "may". Meaning that cases like Terri's may be referred to federal courts.
The new wording for both the House and the Senate bills will mean: a family member can ask the federal court to review a case such as Terri's. At this time, any person can make a plea to the federal courts and they can deny. With the new wording, only a family member can approach federal courts - then the federal court must review.
I must say that Bo Gritz is a very nice person, and a wonderful man, to do this for Terry. I don't care if he's right, left, middle, home plate . . . . whatever.

Sarah, what is the significance of the word "shall"? I mean ... shall what? Am I missing something here?
By Anonymous, at 4:59 PM
Sherri is asking everyone to call their Representatives, and implore them to sign this bill today - not tomorrow!

I didn't ask her what the issue was between the words "shall" and "maybe". It must be here on the site somewhere.

Why not just let Terri go?
