  • I must say I'm shocked at seeing the amended bill coming out of the Judiciary Committee! It no longer applies to Terri! This new bill (they didn't keep any of the original wording) applies only to people in Persistent Vegetative State, which by the definition of Florida and any reasonable person, Terri is not. However, the court did say she was years ago, so maybe it could help her in the short term. Let's lobby the representatives for the next committee to reinsert the broader language.

Representives on the Health & Families Concil known to be firmly against the bill are Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall and Eleanor Sobel.

  • So, since we have no valid email addresses for the representatives, and possibly this bill will not even apply to Terri now, what are we to do, especially those of us not in Florida? I know that most of those trying to save Terri believe she is not PVS, but if the bill doesn't apply to the current court ordered diagnosis, have we accomplished anything for Terri in particular?

  • You can click on the link for each of these representatives, and either fill in the web contact form, which will be forwarded to the representative as an e-mail, or better yet, you can call their offices around 7:30am to 8:30am tomorrow morning.

Also, contact the senators and make the same point to them. They also have to pass their version of the bill, and then the two versions need to be reconciled. So there is still opportunity to get this error corrected.

I will be standing in front of the entrance to the representatives' parking garage as they arrive tomorrow holding a sign that says:

    Health & Families Council Members:

Terri Schiavo is NOT a vegetable! Please broaden the language of HB 701 to include ALL incompetent persons again!
