Wrongful Death

A question that I keep thinking about:
Is it possible to sue someone in Civil Court for "Wrongful Death" before the victim actually dies?
The Schindlers would have an excellent case of wrongful death against Michael Schiavo, George Felos, George Greer, the Office of the DA, the Police, etc. etc. etc.
