Jail? Sounds Good to Me!
A mother-of-three is to spend three months in jail instead of paying a parking fine to get a rest from her 'demanding' children and 'lazy' husband.
Maria Brunner waved to neighbours as police drove her away for not paying a £50 fine that had risen to £2,500 because it had been left unpaid.
"She opened the door and seemed really happy, if not relieved, to see us before asking us to take her away and lock her up," said one of the arresting officers from Poing in Germany.
The 38-year-old said she had had enough of scraping a living for her family as a cleaner every day while "my lazy husband sits on his backside doing nothing".
She added: "As long as I get food and a hot shower everyday, I don't mind being sent to jail. It means I can finally get some rest and relaxation without having to cook, wash and clean for everyone."
Brunner said she only found out she owed so much money when she got a letter from public prosecutors saying she would be jailed if she did not repay it immediately.
She says her unemployed husband, 35, hid the original fine from her that had been sent after he parked badly while driving her car.
"At first I was really worried about it, because I knew we did not have so much money, but then I looked at it as a chance to get away for a while," she said.
A police officer added: "She repeatedly thanked us for arresting her and smiled and waved as she was driven off to jail."
But her stay in prison may be cut short as her husband is desperately trying to raise the money to pay off her fine.
A while back, Bill O'Reilly did a segment on a study that stating how elderly men died much sooner once their wife died as opposed to how women lived much longer once their husbands died. He had "specialists" on the show giving different reasons for this. I remember laughing and telling the television, "Bill, no need for "specialists! This study just shows you the lengths that men will go to, in order to get out of doing housework."

I really understand how she feels. If you are taking care of kids all of your life and never get a chance to do what you want, you will be thankful for whatever vacation you get. People don't understand how hard it is to raise kids, raising kids is a job a, a job that does not pay overtime. Kudos to her, she finally got her vacation . rp4040

I agree with you rp4040. I understand that raising kids is a full-time job; you're always on call. As hillarious as this story is, it's something terribly wrong with a person that would willingly choose jail in order to get away from the home.

Two things. I can see where she is coming from on viewing her jail time as a vacation. Lord knows we all need one once in a while and for free too. Can't beat that. But what a waste of taxpayers money. Is it really necessary to throw her in jail over such a minor violation? Maybe if the jails weren't so accomodating people wouldn't be so ready to go into them. Maybe they should have just garnished their wages.

I agree with MH7086. This is a waste of taxpayers dollars. It's unbelievable that a mother/wife would rather go to jail to get away for a bit from her family. I truely understand that being a wife and mother can at times be exhausting, but going to jail to get a reprieve from them is not the way to go. She needs to get strong and have her children and husband (especially him) to help her out more so that she doesn't feel this way. It's really a sad situation. We may laugh but the reality of it is that it's really not even funny that someone would go to this extreme for a little peace and quiet.
